Be thankful each day for God's blessings
pastor corner

Thursday was Thanksgiving Day. For the first time in a few years, my wife and I will be celebrating at home. We have family coming in for dinner, and we are looking forward to a good day.
Quite frankly, I have taken the week off in order to do a few projects around the house and play a round of golf.
Thanksgiving probably is my favorite day of the year for a variety of reasons. It seems to be the least commercialized of the major holidays.  It involves eating many of my favorite foods. And there will be football and basketball on the television throughout the day.
But my favorite part of the day is that it involves acknowledging the blessings of God.
I have to tell you this: God is good. I know that life can be hard and is filled with ups and downs. And I also know that some of those downs are really down.
But I will say it again: God is good. I know that has been true in my life. I have been married to my college sweetheart for almost 35 years. We have two sons and a daughter-in-law. The youngest son’s life was deeply altered but spared almost 1½ years ago. We have a nice home we enjoy. Our church family is a precious group of people who are better to us than we deserve.
And I could go on for a while.
But today my challenge is to you. For what should you be thankful? What has God done for you? Specifically, what has he done for you recently? This year?
It is so easy to focus on our problems. There are times when they seem to be larger than life itself. And yet, God has promised never to leave us or to forsake us. He has promised to care for us and meet our needs. And time after time, he has kept his promises.
We need to be thankful every day. But at the very least, we should take time today to give thanks for all God has done. Make a list. Share it with friends and family.
As Paul wrote, “In everything, give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Happy Thanksgiving!
