There is a lot of excitement in the air at Grace Baptist Church in Hinesville. For the past four months, the church has been the scene of rehearsal after rehearsal. The church family, under the leadership of John Mills, was gearing up for its third Christmas Cantata Sunday evening. The musical celebration's theme was “Then Jesus Came.”
“For the last two years, the church was full during the cantata,” Mills said. “Members of the choir work very hard for this event.”
Mills has served as the pastor of Grace Baptist for five years. The growing church on Airport Road is in the midst of a changing community.
No novice to the ministry, Mills has served as a pastor for 29 years. Prior to relocating to Liberty County, he was a pastor in Albany, N.Y., for 21 years.
“I desire to get the simple gospel to people, so they might experience liberty in Christ and know they have eternal life,” Mills said.
Grace Baptist is a very active church for adults and youth. The church is home to a Kids for Christ Ministry every Thursday for children 1-6 years old, and an Ambassadors for Christ group for children 7–12 meet every other Saturday.
According to   Mills, Grace Baptist has a very friendly and caring atmosphere. It is mission-oriented.
“In June 2009, we will have our scripture-binding week,” Mills said. “Members put the scriptures together. We will do the books of John and Romans. After the printing, we will collate and send the books to a mission in another country.  Additionally, we will probably do a mission trip to Mexico next year.”
Mills’ family is made up of his wife, Debi, who works in the ministry, three boys, one girl, and seven grandchildren. In his spare time, Mills enjoys reading, fishing and hunting.
Members of Grace Baptist invite you to come and share their special worship experience today and on Sunday mornings. The church bus travels around the surrounding area to pick up children for 9:45 a.m. Sunday school. Parents can also ride on the bus. There is also a puppet show each Sunday.
