Easter always comes in the spring, which is a time when things that at least appear dead come alive.

We see leaves sprouting from buds that have been dormant for months. We see flowers blooming everywhere, which is a true sign of new life. The grass begins to grow and turns into a brighter green.

The Easter season has a feel of new life. This shouldn’t surprise us since Easter is all about new life. It’s a time when we commemorate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior from the dead.

In 1 Corinthians 15:3 we are told: “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”

If Jesus would have remained in the grave, we would be serving a dead savior, but he rose to sit at the Father’s right side, interceding for any who desires to be saved. He also, by rising from the grave, gave us the assurance that we too may rise in two ways.

First, to a new life on earth, Romans 6:4 reveals this: “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” But also to an eternal life with our Lord, where we will be raised up with a new body.

One Corinthians 15:42-44 bears this out when it says, “So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body.”

This means that those who are crippled will walk, those who are blind will see, those with diseases will have none and no matter what our physical limitations, we all who are believers will be free.

So the next time you notice these signs all around you of spring and new life, either thank God for your new life brought about by what the risen Christ has done for you or think about the opportunity and invitation you have to experience a new life.
