Youth from across the county are gathering for a week of spiritual refreshment and renewal. Billed as a countywide youth revival, this event is one of many planned activities for teens and children this summer.
The countywide revival will be at First Zion Baptist Church at the Crossroads in Riceboro at 7:30 nightly Monday-Thursday, July 6-9. The speaker for the revival is the Rev. Anthony Johnson of Fellowship of Love Church of God in Christ in Allenhurst.
At 7 p.m. Friday, Donald Lovette and Love-It Productions will present a play for the youth entitled, “The Underdogs.”  The play also will be staged at First Zion.
“Youth from different churches in the Riceboro, Hinesville and Midway areas will be participating in the revival.  Minister Lisa Jackson is in charge of the countywide mass youth choir. Each night, the mass youth choir will render music. The choir is composed of youth from various churches in the county,” said Pastor Frederick McIver, who will host the event.
“The purpose of the revival is to motivate our children and let them know they are still a part of us. During the revival, youth from different churches will present skits and various talents.  The adults will serve as ushers,” McIver said.
“The message we are sending is that not all youth are lost,” he said. “We want to motivate the children so they can share God with their friends. They don’t have to do what other kids are doing. They can still stand.”
McIver said the revival organizers are expecting a great turnout. “We want to get all churches involved so our youths can be motivated and learn how to fellowship together. We plan to have a good time in the Lord with the youths.”
During the revival, Pastor Derrick Smoak and evangelist Peggy LeCounte will assist.
“Everyone is invited to come and support our children. Salvation, healing, and deliverance will take place,” McIver said.
