Once God wanted to confuse man. It is found in Genesis 11. It was on this occasion that God caused confusion by changing the languages men spoke.

Man had decided to build a tower and a city. They were trying to make a name for themselves, as if they were as important as God. God did not allow that.

When it comes to salvation God has never tried to confuse man.

Some men try to do things without God, and some try to do things thinking they are with God, but in reality they are opposing God.

Who does man think he is when he tries to change God’s word or to come up with his own plan to please God? Jehovah God, creator of all things, the giver of eternal life to all who will obey him, the being who gave his only begotten Son for the redemption of mankind is not to be told what to do, or to have his word ignored or changed by mankind. Yet it seems that some are determined to do that very thing.

Divine guidance is needed by mankind in order to live in heaven for eternity. It is found in God’s word.  “O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” (Jeremiah 10:23).

Jeremiah knew man’s weakness, and that guidance from God was needed. God has not left man to fumble around looking for direction. He has given man his word to follow.

Paul wrote, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Timothy 3:16, 17).

This passage shows that God’s word is just that, it is God breath, it is from the mind of God. It is not man’s thoughts on what God said; it is from God. This is what Jesus taught when he told his apostles to wait for the Holy Spirit. The Spirit would direct them into truth, bringing to their memories the things they had been taught, and would not speak of himself, but would testify of Christ, glorifying him (John 14:26; 15:26; 16:13,14).

The apostles on the Pentecost received the Holy Spirit as is recorded in Acts 2. On that day, they were able to speak in foreign languages so the nations gathered in Jerusalem were able to hear them.

“And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, ‘Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?  And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?’” (Acts 2:5-8).

God has given his word to mankind and it is not for man to try and change it. Man may say things different from what the Bible teaches, but man has not changed the true word of God.

Paul’s writings show this, “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” (Galations 1:6-9).

To be accursed means to be cut off totally from God.

God wants man to be saved and he has given man the Bible. There is no need to be confused as to how to please God. Study his word and obey it.
