Get a regular checkup with the Lord

The other day, I had my yearly physical checkup at with my family doctor. The good news is that all signs point to a healthy future, but the bad news is that I will have to go through it again next year.
To help you understand, during one test I said to the doctor, “Honest, officer, I don’t have any drugs.”
To tell the truth, I am honestly thankful for these checkups that can find something early to prevent future unnecessary complications or even death.
For Christians, there are the opportunities for regular spiritual checkups. David worded it in Psalm 139 this way: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” What David is asking of the Lord is for the Lord to give him a spiritual checkup. In other words, how am I doing? It wouldn’t be a bad idea to pray this prayer every day and ask the Lord to examine our motives, thoughts and actions. When God points his finger on something that is wrong, we need to confess it and rely on the power of God to help us overcome it.
Some of you may not need a checkup today because you already know where the problem lies. Either you don’t have a relationship with God, or God already has spoken to you about something in your life that isn’t right.
In both situations, obedience is the thing that’s needed. The good news is that God is waiting on your move and he has promised to respond with forgiveness and his presence.
