Billed as a mission conference, the members of Africa on Fire are holding an event to educate and inspire attendees about the church’s role in mission and evangelism.

On Sept. 21-22, AOF will host Mission Conference 2012 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1370 Shaw Road in Hinesville. The theme for the conference is “Operation Mission Possible.” The event is free and open to the public.

A nonprofit corporation, Africa on Fire is involved in challenging the church to a new mission view.

“The challenge is for churches to act upon the great commission, as stated in Matthew 28:18-20, by completing their part of the mobilization process for world missions in a strategic way,” AOF Executive Director Dr. Deloris Mitchell said. “Our mission is to mobilize and empower local churches to train and equip believers to make disciples of all nations, tribes and tongues. Africa on Fire supports the work of indigenous missionaries in Kenya, Nigeria, Togo and Malwai. We believe that Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20) is a non-negotiable command. This command is given to every believer of every age and generation to be carried out in a strategic and ongoing process until the task is completed and Jesus returns.”

Mitchell said the essence of disciple-making is doing more than providing information; people must also be taught, as Jesus said, “to observe all things I have commanded you.”

“Teaching people to observe or perform what Jesus commanded includes teaching, training, modeling, correcting, empowering and releasing the new disciple to continue the disciple-making process by going out and making other disciples,” Mitchell said.

Youth and adult night will be 7-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21. Mitchell said youth will be ministered to by Level 3:16. The group has ministered in America, Africa and Europe. Another part of Youth Night is called Missions GO (global emphasis).

The evening will end with pizza and beverages.

Saturday, Sept. 22, has been set aside for pastors, co-pastors, youth pastors/directors, young adults, members of the mission ministry, leaders and lay members.

The conference will begin at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast.

The Rev. Richard Coleman of Norcross is the keynote speaker. Coleman oversees The Mission Society’s recruiting, coaching and processing missionary candidates.

There will be four workshops and topics for attendees before the conference concludes at noon.

Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall after the conference.
