In the midst of a growing community, this young pastor has a church that is reaching beyond the four walls to help others. Church members are known for their mission outreach and their efforts to empower those in need.
Pastor Jeremy Lormis has been in the ministry most of his adult life. He is pastor of New Life Family Church in Midway.
“My dad was a pastor, and I started helping him when I was about 16 years old,” the 32-year-old said. “I started working as a youth pastor during my last year of Bible college.”
He has also worked at the renowned Joyce Meyers Ministry in St. Louis.
Members of New Life are involved in the 747 food ministry outreach, which is predicated on Joseph’s interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream in the book of Genesis. The church offers weekly food and hygiene distribution in Hinesville at the Gateway Center and Frasier Homes and Raintree Apartments, and in Midway at the church.
“We are committed to reaching people in our community with the love of Christ,” Lormis said. “We get our supplies from America’s Second Harvest, individual donations, Joyce Meyers Ministry and local merchants.”
New Life has various ministries to meet the needs of members and the community. “We have a home group that meets during the week; there is also a women’s group, men’s group and youth group.”
The church has a back-to-school beach party for the youth and monthly youths events. During January-February, youths take a ski trip to North Carolina. They also go on a mission trip to Jamaica.
“We offer ministry for the entire family,” Lormis said. “We understand the demands on families in our culture, and I am careful not to place too many scheduled events through the church to become yet another burden on families. My first ministry must be to my family and their needs.”
New Life has experienced phenomenal growth, both physically and spiritually.
According to Lormis, a person’s Christianity should be fun and lived out every day.
“Our worship experience is incredible. We have some very talented people. David Turner is our worship leader. He used to work in bars. Now he is ministering in the church.”
Turner is also doing some recording.
The pastor describes his congregation as young and vibrant. The church has several military members, some who are deployed.
“We have a support group and provide any necessary assistance to their families.”
Last year, New Life won first place in the Liberty County Christmas parade.
Lormis is married to Angela Lormis, and they have three children, Matthew, Bethany and Weston.
“Bethany is going to San Jose, Calif., next month to compete in the junior national taekwondo competition,” Lormis said. Mrs. Lormis works at the church and begins teaching at the First Presbyterian Christian Academy in the fall.
An avid outdoorsman, Lormis loves to fish. He also enjoys building furniture. They live in Midway.
