I am intrigued by the many commercials about lotteries. The implication is that if you want to become an overnight millionaire, just go buy a ticket.

A commercial I recently viewed said that the winnings start at $40 million. The reality is that for that type of winning, the odds are like one in around 300 million. To give us a better picture of this, we could take 300 million $1 bills and lay them end to end and they would stretch 28,500 miles. It would be like having your name on the back of one of them and someone randomly drawing that bill in order for you to win.

Again, your chances of winning are slim to none.

There are a lot of things in life where a person’s odds of winning are less than 100 percent, but there is one area where I know there is that guarantee.

John 3:16 affirms this when it states: "Whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Any and every person who desires to become a follower of Jesus Christ will be accepted and can know 100 percent where they will end up when it’s their time to leave this world.

I’m not advocating for a person to play the lottery. But in order to win, a person must buy a ticket. The same is true when being accepted by Jesus — a person must come to him in prayer admitting their need and believing that he will meet it.
