Sunday was a time of new beginnings for the Beach Hill Baptist Church in Midway.
The church installed a new pastor, the Rev. Douglas Carter of Hinesville. Dr. Sinclair Thorne of the First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Hinesville will be the speaker.
Carter, who was appointed as the pastor of the 133-year-old church in December 2012, is excited about his appointment.
“The members are very enthusiastic and excited to see what God has in store.  They are very helpful and friendly,” Carter said. “We are looking to work with the evangelism program, work more with Bible study and get more involved in the community. I also want to work with outreach mission.”
Carter is employed as a functional technology specialist with the Child and Youth Services of the Directorate of Morale Welfare and Recreation on Fort Stewart. He also is pursuing his Master’s of Divinity at Liberty University.
His favorite Scripture is 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Carter credits his wife, Janae; his pastor, Dr. Sinclair Throne, pastor of First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Hinesville; and his late grandfather, Deacon Ridgeway Smith, as being influential in his life, especially his spiritual life.
The Carters, who will have their ninth anniversary next month, have three children. Janae Carter is attending cosmetology school.
In his spare time, Pastor Carter enjoys golfing.
“I also love to swim and read, and I enjoy technology,” he said.
Beach Hill Baptist Church has services every Sunday, except for fifth Sundays. Sunday school is at 10 a.m., and Bible study is 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
