The year 2009 is a special time for the Bethesda Church family. Located in the midst of a thriving military community, Bethesda serves the combined communities of Hinesville and Fort Stewart.
“This year is the church’s 25th anniversary and also my fifth year as pastor,” Tim Byler said. Apostle Tim, as he is called, is a seventh generation preacher. “The number five represents grace, and we are believing for multiple levels of grace,” he said.
Bethesda has a diverse membership. It is a multicultural, non-denominational church flowing in the mainstream of the New Apostolic Reformation. The name ‘Bethesda’ means ‘house of mercy or grace‘ and was adopted in 1999.
“The heart of our ministry is to reach into the community with the life changing Gospel of Jesus Christ. Worship is exciting and powerful, blending the various sounds and styles of Christian praise in a culturally expressive mix of gospel, Latin and contemporary Christian music,” Byler said.
“Hinesville is uniquely positioned for global impact, extending the message and ministry of Jesus’ love far beyond the boundaries of this locality, this community and this nation. We are committed to the great commission, recognizing that we are a church of people sent by God to reach and serve others with His love and with His grace,” Byler said.
“Our internal goals for 2009 will focus on prayer, discipleship and unity. We also have external goals which include seeing the city prosper and move forward. We pray for businesses and business leaders, growth and productivity of the community. Bethesda is committed to strengthening families and being a source of support to our military during their season of growth,” Byler said.
“Our vision is that God gave us an amazing life. We want people to understand that God gave them an amazing life and discover and walk in the amazing life God offers.”
Bethesda’s prayer ministry offers prayer encounters and extensive counseling service.
“With the military deployments and redeployments, there has been an increase in the need for family counseling services,” Byler said. The church is approximately 50 percent military.
Bethesda it is a growing church and has various ministries in place to meet the needs of the members and community. Some of the ministries include: G Force Youth Group, The Vision Players, Feet of Glory – Feet of Clay, The Rehoboth Project, Voices of Fire, Life Groups, Georgia Coastal School of Ministry, Club 31 — Amazing Women, Amazing Kids and Saturday Morning Alive.
“The youth are very involved in the ministry and will be taking a mission trip to Mexico this year,” Byler said. The church is also launching an outreach in the metro Atlanta area under the leadership of Phil Byler.
“According to Psalm 139, God is everywhere, even in the midst of the economic crisis. Walk in God’s will; He will provide, but you must know that. God created us and determined our purpose. We are created for purpose. If we operate in the purpose God created for us, we will stay in His presence,” Byler said.
A gifted teacher, preacher, psalmist, musician, and author, Tim Byler is married to Dr. Cindy Byler. The Bylers are the parents of four children, and Dr. Byler serves as a counselor at Bethesda.
