Rhema New Life Ministry in Allenhurst is attracting a lot of children. The church, which sits on 10 acres of land, has been established for one year.
“My husband and son did the majority of the building,” said Pastor Dedra Harvey.
Harvey’s husband, Hosea Harvey, serves as the bishop.
A native of Columbia, S.C., Harvey relocated to this area in 1985 when she was in the military. Her husband is a native of Liberty County. She has been in the ministry for eight years and her husband has been in the ministry for five years.
Although it was recently established, the church has implemented various ministries and is reaching out to the community. Rhema New Life has an active youth ministry consisting of praise flag, step and mime teams. The church also has an active mission and evangelism ministry. Members evangelize by going out and assisting people.
“We help the older people who are in need by providing food and clothes,” Harvey said. “I cater to the children. They are the ones who will carry this ministry to a level I can never imagine. When we have things for the children, they love it. They enjoy having fun. I have their MySpace pages. I make sure there is nothing inappropriate on them.
“Rhema New Life Ministry is a family church. We have marital conferences and family cookouts. Every Sunday, we have dinner after church,” the pastor said.
“We believe in knowing who is in the ministry. During dinner, we get a chance to talk and get to know each other better. The meals after church bring a closeness to the ministry. The ministry is small, but we are growing. People are looking for somewhere they can call home. We are about helping people,” Harvey said. “I love seeing people blessed and their lives changed. I know where God brought me from and how He changed me. I am a breast cancer survivor and also had sarcoidosis.  My vision is to see the lost saved.
“ We have 10 acres of land, and the children enjoy getting outside and riding the go-carts and 4-wheelers. Our ministry is about keeping the families together. The enemy wants to keep families separated,” Harvey said.
She credits Apostle Scott L. Johnson and his wife, Evangelist Twila Johnson, with helping her in the ministry and serving as an inspiration. When I went through my ordeal with cancer, they were right there. They prayed for me and are my overseers. They have had a great impact on my ministry.”
Her advice to pastors and ministers is “unity.”
“We all need to come together as one big body of Christ,” Harvey said.
Hosea and Dedra Harvey have been married since 2004. They are the parents of eight children and six grandchildren.
Dedra Harvey said she enjoys being outside. “I love to ride the 4-wheeler.”
She also enjoys teaching. She teaches prophetic classes and attended school in Ideal, Ga. Her husband is a mechanic.
The Harveys and members of Rhema New Life Ministry invite the public to come worship with them at their sanctuary at 267 Aarons Drive in Allenhurst, off Arnold’s Drive.
