The Shepherds in Concert are back, and ready for another exciting performance.
It has been nine wonderful years since the Shepherds in Concert became an annual tradition, bringing together pastors who sing and praise God’s glory. At 5 p.m. Saturday, April 28, the Shepherds will perform at Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church in Allenhurst.
For nearly a decade, several pastors from Liberty County and the surrounding communities have gathered to lend their voices to a powerful song service. Every year, these pastors meet the last Saturday in April to sing. These musically inclined clergy members love what they do, and their audiences enjoy their talent.
Most of the pastors sing for their congregations on Sunday mornings, but during the concert they have the opportunity to sing for the community.
This year, six pastors are scheduled to sing, including Pastor C.L. Anderson of Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church in Allenhurst, Pastor Kevin L. Betton of Temple of Praise in Hinesville, Pastor Henry Frasier Jr. of New Dimension Christian Fellowship in Walthourville, Pastor Alvin Jackson of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Hinesville, Pastor Rose Jones of St. Thomas African Methodist Episcopal Church in Walthourville and Apostle Walter Ross of Ross Ministries in Midway. This year’s concert also will feature Lorenzo Gaffney of the Gospel A’s of Lyons.
The shepherds arrive in style and walk the “red carpet” with their spouses as they enter the sanctuary. People come from miles around for the program. Concert attendees hail from Liberty, Chatham, Effingham, Bryan, Evans, Glynn, McIntosh, Long, Wayne, Bulloch and Tattnall counties. When the host church opens its doors, the crowds always are eager to fill the sanctuary where they await the arrival of the Shepherds.
“While the singing is good and we certainly enjoy singing, the concert is about more than that. Since the beginning of the concert, we have tried to help someone in need. This year, we will again help a cancer patient,” Good Shepherd Pastor and concert organizer Dr. C.L. Anderson said.
In past years, proceeds from the concert have helped a kidney/liver recipient, the TriCounty Protective Agency, several cancer patients and have aided in the rebuilding of a church.
“Last year, we made a donation to two young ladies who were undergoing cancer treatment,” Anderson said.
