Few comedians could get much more popular than Kel Mitchell did in the 1990s.

Mitchell was one of the stars on the channel Nickelodeon and headlined TV shows like All That, Keenan & Kel and even the film Good Burger," according to Page Six, a blog of the New York Post.

But after he and his then-wife Tyisha Hampton divorced after six years of marriage, Mitchell fell into depression, which gave him suicidal thoughts and led him toward heavy drug use, Page Six reported.

Still, even after those dark days, Mitchell rebounded. In fact, he said it was God who turned his life around.

Before, it was just about me, but now it is more about Christ, Mitchell told Page Six. Thats when things started to turn around in my life. I went through a rough time, but now I have peace.

After first becoming a stage manager at a nondenominational church in Los Angeles, Mitchell got re-married to rapper Asia Lee and re-acquainted with his children from his first marriage. Hell soon star in the new show Game Shakers, a live-action sitcom on Nickelodeon.

Mitchell capped off his return to the spotlight with a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he reunited with comedy actor Kenan Thompson in a Good Burger sketch.
