Those who influence our lives
Pastor's corner

The other day I was talking by phone to my only living aunt about the past. It started me thinking about people who have influenced my life.

There are precious memories of those who took an interest in my spiritual growth. There were those who were kind to me. There were those who had an impact on my spiritual development.

In scripture, the Apostle reminded someone who he had taken under his wings about such people in his life. He indicated that there were seeds planted in him by his grandmother and mother.

This is recorded in 2 Timothy 1:5 where Paul said, "I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also."

As I looked back, there were my parents who took me to church and lived out their faith to the best of their ability.

There was a pastor who took some of us young people to a White Castle Restaurant where we could eat as many small hamburgers as we could eat. (This may seem insignificant to you, but it meant a lot to me).

There were older members of the church who encouraged me to follow my calling into the ministry.

There was an uncle who made sure I got to Bible college to start preparation for the ministry.

There were other pastors who encouraged a young buck with a lot of zeal but not so much wisdom to continue on the journey.

Last of all, but definitely not of least important, was my wife who put up with me as I tried to find my way to effective ministry.

Think about it, if you are a believer, there were those who influenced you. It would be nice, if possible, to let them know of your appreciation.

If you are not a believer, hopefully there are those in your life who have tried to influence you to trust Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.

Hopefully their prayers will be answered and you will find your way.
