Some recent court cases have been decided in a way that many people thought was wrong. Right or wrong, I could not say because I do not have all the facts. Without all the facts, it is impossible to come to the right conclusion.
It is the same when it comes to religion. Without all the facts, coming to the right conclusion about what God wants man to do is next to impossible. It would seem that anyone who has the desire to come to the right conclusion about religion should want to have all the facts.
The facts about religion are found in the Bible. It is true that you can listen to preachers, but if you do not have all the facts yourself, who is to say the preacher is telling you all the facts.
Back in the days of God’s prophet Jeremiah, an occasion arose where the people were listening to a preacher, but he was not telling them all the facts. The nation of Judah was under siege from Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon.
Jeremiah, a true prophet, had told the people this would happen because they had refused to repent. He told them they would be overcome and held in captivity for 70 years.
Yet false prophets or preachers told a different story to the people. In Jeremiah, chapter 28, one such prophet, Hananiah, stood before the people and proclaimed, “Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. Within two full years will I bring again into this place all the vessels of the Lord’s house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon: And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, that went into Babylon, saith the Lord: for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon” (Jer. 28:2-4).
This message was well received by the people, but you see, they did not have all the facts. They needed to know if this prophet was a true prophet and whether the information was factual. But instead of checking this out, they chose to believe him.
Jeremiah went to Hananiah and told him what God had determined for him because of his false teachings.
“Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, ‘Hear now, Hananiah; The Lord hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.’ Therefore thus saith the Lord; ‘Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the Lord’” (Jer. 28:15, 16).
Jeremiah’s prophecy came true and the people of Judah spent 70 years in captivity.
We need to know the facts about religion.
Paul wrote, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Tim. 3:16, 17). 
“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15).
We must realize how rightly to divide the word to determine which law I am living under and what is expected of me.
Yes, the Bible contains the facts, and we must be students of it in order to know and follow the facts. When we have all the facts, then we can make the proper determination as to what we need to be doing spiritually.
