You get what you pay (pray) for
pastor corner

Through personal experience I have learned that, for the most part, you get what you pay for.

I have purchased items at a much-discounted price, thinking I received a great deal, when in fact the items broke or definitely didn’t last as long. On the other hand, I have paid more than I really wanted to for something, and years later understood how good of a deal I received.

This same principle is true when it comes to prayer. If you put very little effort in your prayer life and pray with little faith, you can’t expect to receive much in return. In other words, you get what you pray for. Galatians 6:7 reminds us that we reap what we sow.

Some expect the Lord to always meet their needs, to save all of their unsaved loved ones and friends and to see them through tough times when they just whisper a prayer every once in a while, or never pray at all. James deals with this type of lifestyle when he says in chapter 4, verse 2, “You have not because you ask not.” God wants to help us and answer our prayers when that answer is in accordance with his will and will bring him honor, but he tells us in his word to ask. We also must believe when we pray, for in Matthew 21:22, we are told, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

What do you want God to do for you that will be for your good and will at the same time bring him honor, praise and glory? Are you investing the time to talk to him about it and are you believing that he has the power and ability to do what you ask?
