Firefighters collecting to fight dystrophy
Placeholder Image
Firefighters in Hines-ville battle more than fires. From 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 16 and 23 at Wal-Mart and Lowes on Highway 84, firefighters will team up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to "fill the boot." These "boot drives" offer the community a chance to donate money that will be used in the battle against neuromuscular diseases.
This will be the 10th year the Hinesville Fire Department has partnered with MDA. This year, with support from the community, they hope to raise $2,400.
The proceeds collected from the "Fill-the-Boot" drive will aid local children and adults affected by neuromuscular diseases by providing wheelchairs, leg braces, clinic visits, support groups and a chance for children to attend the local MDA summer camp in Rincon.
For more than 54 years, firefighters and MDA have partnered to fight neuromuscular disease. MDA applauds these heroes, who not only battle flames, but muscular dystrophy. Please help "fill a boot" on Aug. 16 and 23 to make a difference.
