Former DFCS head to mark 80th birthday

Sallie Walthour Richardson will be celebrated on her 80th birthday at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at Midway Congregational Christian Church.

Richardson retired in 2000 as the Liberty County director of Liberty County Department of Family and Children Services. Since that time, she has been involved in volunteer and community activities including serving as chairwoman of the Judicial Citizens Review Panel, president of Prevent Child Abuse of Liberty County, and being a member of the Dorchester Improvement Association, Diversity Health Board, the Liberty County Chronic Disease/Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition and being a charter member and first president of the Hinesville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. In addition, she served as the 2015 grand marshal of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade and celebration.

Richardson is mother to three children, Claire Robinson and Molbro Roberts of Hinesville, and Sandra Roberts Bell of Atlanta; and has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is the widow of Lee Thomas Richardson.
