Fort McAllister State Park will be closed until at least the second week in November as staff continues to recover from Hurricane Matthew.
"Our campground was totally wiped out," said Assistant Manager Anthony Patronis. "We’ve got a good solid month of work to get it cleaned up."
The entire park remains closed to the public, including the playground/picnic area and fishing pier. Patronis said the pier sustained erosion damage that will require some of the supports to be rebuilt.
The boat access just outside the main gate remains open. Patronis said crews have not even begun to address damage along the Redbird Creek Trail yet.
Patronis added that there was no structural damage to the visitor’s center or the fort itself and that no one was injured.
