GeoVista Credit Union workers have helped the homeless and the community at large through various fundraisers this year.

Though supported by GeoVista, the fundraising was conducted by the employees alone; no funds from the Credit Union were used, according to Charli Shearer, program coordinator with the Kirk Healing Center for the Homeless.

“They support causes that are important to fellow employees and this community,” Shearer said. “This year they focused on the Kirk Healing Center for the Homeless. They raised funds as a group to contribute $100 a month as a ‘Friend of KHC’ and are working to raise enough to also purchase a new washer and dryer for the women’s house. Finally, they gladly support other (KHC) fundraising efforts throughout the year, such as the charity jail event (in February) and the current ‘Stars for the Homeless’ campaign.”

The Kirk Healing Center serves homeless men and women, including veterans, in the Liberty County community.

“This year, the Kirk Healing Center has already received over 40 requests for assistance from homeless individuals in our community, plus an additional 14 from homeless veterans,” she said.
