K9 Officer Brad from Hinesville Police Department was laid to rest on Saturday, June 28, 2013, at AVS in Orange Park, Fla., after tripping and shattering his front left leg, which added to a list of multiple pre-existing injuries that were obtained while serving his community.
Officer Brad was born in Poland on Feb. 4, 2006. A K9 kennel in North Carolina handpicked him, brought him to the United States, and gave him the training he needed to become a certified K9 Police Officer. On Oct. 8, 2008, he became Hinesville’s first K9 police officer and was partnered with Cpl. Mark Matthews. On Feb. 16, 2011 Cpl. Matthews passed and Officer Brad went to a new handler, Officer Tony Durham.
In the five years Officer Brad has spent with the Hinesville Police Department he has had well over 300 drug related arrests, recovered stolen merchandise and solved numerous burglaries by trailing the criminals, defused possible violent incidents keeping fellow officers and citizens safe, and was a key officer in convicting two murderers.
Services will be held Monday, July 8, between 6-8 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel, www.carteroglethorpe.com
