LibertyFest cancels for this year
Permanent venue being sought

The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce has tabled its annual LibertyFest this year due to a lack of suitable venue.
“It was the decision of the LibertyFest committee, which is made up of Chamber board members, a Fort Stewart representative, the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority director and other community and civic leaders, that hosting LibertyFest will not be possible this year due to lack of venue,” co-chairwoman Leah Poole said.
Chamber Executive Director Kenny Smiley said his organization regrets any inconvenience this may cause the community, it was the decision of everyone involved that unless LibertyFest could be adequately planned at a venue that meets the expanding needs of the festival that a better plan would be to secure an appropriate location and host a bigger event in 2010.
“For our 2010 LibertyFest we have already started planning and creating new ideas. To accomplish an event this large though we need a lot of people involved,” Smiley said. “A positive outcome from this is that now we have time on our side and can find a great (and hopefully permanent) home for LibertyFest where our festival can continue to grow as the community’s signature festival.”
The festival began in 2006 with a one-day event that the committee quickly recognized as much-needed and as a huge success. Both the 2007 and 2008 festivals were two-day events with more than 4,000 people attending each year, making LibertyFest the most successful festival in Liberty County.
