Living Independence for Everyone Inc. helps people with disabilities by providing independent living-skills training and home modifications.
LIFE has begun a rural transportation voucher program to provide mileage reimbursement. The vouchers can be used for medical visits, appointments for grooming, and social or recreational outings that are not paid for by other entities.
Consumers get a travel booklet to fill in travel information such as the driver’s name, mileage and destination. You complete a page for each trip and submit it to LIFE. You choose the driver. It can be a relative, friend or neighbor. Drivers get $.45 a mile. The consumer is asked to pay $5 per 100 miles traveled. There is a limit of 400 miles a month.
Individuals with disabilities in the following counties are eligible to use the program: 10 area counties, including Liberty. For more information or to sign up, call Denise Howard toll free at 1-800-948-4824.
