Health fair slated for Saturday

The city of Hinesville will hold a health fair, sponsored by the Hinesville Neighborhood Watch Group, Walmart Vision Center and the Hinesville Lions Club, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the YMCA on Mary Lou Drive. The fair is open to the community.
John Williams, Hinesville Police Department Crime Prevention Officer, is helping to coordinate the event. Williams said the fair can help put local residents on a road to good health.
“Normally you would have to pay the doctor a visiting fee just for consultation and a fee for the care he or she gives you,” Williams said. “Here, you do not have to pay a penny. The care and advice the doctors and nurses will give at the event is free.”
Williams hopes residents will take advantage of the screenings offered at the health fair, to “make sure there is nothing medically wrong; and if there is, it will give you a heads-up so you can get further medical attention.”
Health fair participants include Liberty Regional Hospital, Winn Army Community Hospital, Gateway Mental Health, the American Red Cross and DFCS.
Free screenings for glucose, diabetes, blood pressure and vision will be offered. Residents can donate blood in the blood mobile and “same-day” AIDS tests will be administered by the Southeastern Georgia Oral Administration.
