The program offers help to low-income households to pay heating bills during the winter.

The Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority Inc. began assisting eligible households with their heating bills this week.
To participate in the program, families must meet an income equal to or less than 125 percent of the poverty guidelines as follows:
• $21,180 for a one-person household
• $27,697 for two people
• $34,214 for three people
• $40,731 for four people
• $47,248 for five people
• $53,765 for six people
• $54,987 for seven people
• $56,209 for eight people
• Add $1,222 annual income for each additional person
Applicants must provide their most current fuel bill or statement of service from their heat provider.
They also must have proof of income for all household members for the past 30 days, which may be in the form of a paystub or award letter.
Additionally, applicants must bring social security cards for all household members as well as proof of citizenship.
Payments for those who are eligible will be made directly to their home-energy suppliers.
Anyone who has not received assistance since November and wants to apply for benefits in Liberty County should call 1-866-423-8081 for an appointment.
Households will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. The program will close when funds are exhausted.
