Mobile-health vehicle offers mammograms
N05A3820

BRUNSWICK — Southeast Georgia Health System announced its latest round of access to mammography around the region with its Wellness on Wheels, or WOW, mobile-health vehicle.
The mobile unit will be at IGA Supermarket, Highway 84 in Ludowici from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 16. Call 912-545-2107, ext. 233, for information and appointments.
The health system began its mobile mammography in 2006 with the custom designed WOW, a completely self-contained mobile health vehicle that only requires space in a parking lot. The WOW features the same advanced digital mammography equipment found at the health system’s Breast Care Center. It is staffed by female mammography technologists specially trained to perform breast imaging, and all mobile-unit mammograms are read by the same group of radiologists who review Breast Care Center mammograms. The WOW is accredited by the American College of Radiology and certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
In 2015, the health system’s commitment to fighting breast cancer was recognized with a $60,000 grant from Coastal Georgia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen. The grant helps to provide screening and diagnostic breast imaging services for uninsured and underserved patients.
The WOW will provide mammograms during the month of June. All mammograms require a physician’s order; insurance is accepted and financial assistance is available to patients who qualify. For more information about low or no-cost mammograms for uninsured or underinsured persons in Camden, Glynn, Long and McIntosh counties, call 912-466-5234.
Anyone who would like to schedule the WOW mobile health vehicle for a not-for-profit event should call Southeast Georgia Health System’s Health, Promotion and Wellness department at 912-466-5160.
