Long County nurse Jeanette Maynard recently retired from Coastal Manor Long Term Care Facility after taking care of patients for 45 years.
Coastal Manor Director Elise Stafford said that the staff gave Maynard a retirement party for her dedicated service.
Maynard, 70, began her career in 1966 at the age of 23 after earning her certificate as a licensed practical nurse in Waycross. Throughout her career, Maynard has cared for patients in hospitals, psychiatric facilities and nursing facilities.
The Florida native joined the staff at Coastal Manor in 2001 and, according to Stafford, has been a dedicated employee ever since.
“She is a quiet giant who walks softly but makes a tremendous difference in the lives of others,” Stafford said.
The director said that as a caregiver at Coastal Manor, Maynard has served in a motherly capacity to other employees while nurturing the residents. Stafford said Maynard served as a mentor to other nurses at the facility and provided insight and knowledge. She also said Maynard displays a genuine satisfaction in serving others.
“The employees wish her well and hope that she will return to visit and volunteer on a regular basis,” Stafford said.
