Registration for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Liberty County now is open. Relay For Life starts at 6 p.m. Friday, May 16 and runs through the following morning, Saturday, May 17, at the Liberty County Recreation Department on Oglethorpe Highway. Register a team by going to RelayForLife.org/LibertyGA or by calling 912-265-7117.
Former and current cancer patients, those who have lost loved ones to cancer, families, businesses, faith-based and civic organizations and anyone who wants to help in the fight against cancer are invited to take part in the annual team event.
American Cancer Society Relays are held overnight, and teams camp out at an athletic track, park or other gathering area with the goal of keeping at least one member from each team on the track or pathway at all times throughout the night. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold fundraisers at their camp sites during the Relay.
“Relay for Life draws attention to the progress being made in the fight against cancer,” Relay for Life volunteer Chairwoman Karen Bell said. “Many participants are our family, friends and neighbors who have faced cancer themselves. Their involvement helps brings hope that, together, we can eliminate cancer as a major health problem.”
