Richmond Hill Pharmacy will hold its ninth annual health fair from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at 2409 Highway 17.
The event will feature free blood pressure and glucose tests, free glucose-meter upgrades, $25 flu vaccinations and $35 pneumonia vaccinations, administered with a doctor’s prescription. Flu and pneumonia vaccinations are free for Medicare patients who bring their Medicare card. People older than 65 and others at high risk for pneumonia are advised to have the vaccine every five years. Zostavax, the shingles vaccination, also will be available with a doctor’s prescription. Pharmacists and staffers will answer questions and provide health information.
“Our goal is to positively impact the health and quality of life of our local community,” Richmond Hill Pharmacy owner Al Dixon said. “The screenings, information and demonstrations we provide are meant to increase overall health awareness and motivate the members of our community to take charge of their health by making positive choices all year round. “
This year, Richmond Hill Pharmacy joined the Million Hearts Campaign, a national initiative aimed at preventing a million heart attacks and strokes over the next five years by increasing the prescription of and adherence to appropriate medications, improving access to effective care, focusing on heart attack and stroke prevent and encouraging people to lead a heart-healthy lifestyle.
The pharmacy has also teamed up with “A Million More” for its nationwide movement to create awareness about the importance of immunization. Immunization against seasonal flu is the most effective way to help protect the health of our community, and the campaign aims to increase by one million the number of flu vaccinations given in the United States in 2012.
Richmond Hill Pharmacy is part of the Coastal Family of Pharmacies, which includes Medical Center Pharmacy at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah and Hinesville Pharmacy in Hinesville. All three locations offer diabetic education, prescription compounding and blood-pressure monitoring.
