The Coastal Health District will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week with a picnic for WIC participants from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Liberty County Health Department’s WIC clinic in Hinesville. The clinic is at 1183 W. Bultman Ave.
Activities and information will be available to those interested in learning more about the benefits of breastfeeding. Attendees can participate in games, face painting and win door prizes. WIC program participants who are pregnant or breastfeeding will receive goodie bags.
The purpose of World Breastfeeding Week is to raise awareness by providing education on the benefits of breastfeeding and encourage women to breastfeed. Children who are breastfed receive important nutrients and antibodies that protect them from a host of diseases. In addition, breastfeeding has been proven to reduce the risk of obesity, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), childhood diabetes and colic.
