The Ludowici/Long County Fire Department recently named Richard Truman and Tyler Hall as firefighters of the year for 2009.
The firefighters received their awards at the department’s annual Christmas party at the Rye Patch Clubhouse in Ludowici.
“Both of these men have done an outstanding job and I’m proud to have both of them on my department,” L/LCFD Chief Darrell Ballance said.
Hall has been with
the department a year and a half and has training in
extrication and as a firefighter.
“Tyler is an exemplary firefighter. He’s the most fit firefighter in the department and he runs all of our calls. If I had a full-time fire department, I would want 12 firefighters just like him,” Ballance said.
Truman has been a firefighter for nine years and has been with the L/LCFD for two years. He is a certified firefighter and first responder. He is enrolled at Rescue Training Inc. where he’s training as an intermediate EMT.
“Richard is one of the best guys I have,” Ballance said. “He responds to everything. He’s in EMT school and he’s very proficient on the job. I’m very glad to have him on the department.”
After Hall and Truman were congratulated for their accomplishments, Ballance expressed appreciation for all the department members.
“I want to thank all of you firefighters for your dedicated service to Long County, for all of you working as a team and for all you do in responding to the different calls in the county,” Ballance said.
