Long County’s Relay for Life organizers are gearing up for this year’s event, which is May 17-18 at Veterans Field in Ludowici. The 2014 relay kick-off party is at 6 p.m. Jan. 23 at A New Beginning Church. Anyone who is interested in helping or creating a team is invited.
This is Long County’s ninth year participating in Relay for Life.
The county held its first relay in 2006. Fourteen teams participated and raised more than $26,000, and the event has grown yearly. In 2013, 23 teams raised more than $35,000, and 70 survivors took part in the festivities.
This year’s volunteers hope to set a new fundraising record and are encouraging area residents, groups, businesses and civic organizations to create teams and support cancer victims and survivors by doing their part to find a cure for the disease.
