Not everyone is able to provide a meal for their family on Thanksgiving or Christmas on their own. Some need the help of others, and Manna House will be there for those less fortunate this holiday season.
Manna House started distributing Thanksgiving baskets Nov. 19 and will finish handing out the baskets today. The baskets include a turkey with all the trimmings, including vegetables and stuffing.
Baskets are being given to those who are in emergency situations, are low income, disabled, senior citizens, or just in need.
“We’re desperately in need of turkeys and all the fixings,” said Tammy Stewart, head of the volunteers at Manna House.
Manna House will also be providing food for Christmas.
The Rev. Katrina Deason, Director of Manna House, said while the Christmas meal is not as big as Thanksgiving it is still important.
Stewart hopes that schools and other businesses will do canned food drives for the holiday season.
Donations, food and monetary, are always accepted. Manna House is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations may be dropped off during these times. Those who cannot make it during those hours may call (912) 368-3660 to set up an appointment for after-hours.
