Movie day raises $9,000 for local charities

ST. SIMONS ISLAND — Georgia Theatre Company recently announced the results of its 12th annual Cinema for a Cause on Sept. 13 at 24 movie theaters, including Liberty Stadium Cinemas in Hinesville.

Recipient charities for Hinesville were Liberty County Manna House and U.S. Army Fort Stewart Soldier and Family Assistance Center. Each group received half of proceeds from the event day, which totaled $9,728.

One hundred percent of all admission tickets, concession purchases and donations put into a bowl that day went to total to be donated to local charities chosen by each theater staff in their markets.

This year’s event raised more than $208,800, and it has allowed Georgia Theatre Company to donate more than $1,184,200 to area charities over the past 12 years.
