United Military Care Inc., a local nonprofit, full-service organization that assists and supports all military service members, their families and retirees, hosted a formal holiday gala for more than 100 families Dec. 13 at the Richmond Hill City Center.
At the Geo Vista-sponsored event, each attendee received a free tuxedo or ball gown, dinner was served and guests danced. Children received bags of gifts from Santa. The evening concluded with a mother-and-father dance-off. The winners received gift cards to local establishments.
On Thursday and Friday, United Military Care held its Camouflage Christmas toy distribution at its 400 N. Main St. office in Hinesville. Christmas toys were provided to more than 150 needy military families in the area. Families also received wrapping paper, candy and DVDs. The wrapping paper was donated by the Gift Wrap Company in Midway. Christmas DVDs were donated by Toys R Us, and the candy was donated by Walgreens. A few families received free Christmas trees, which were donated by Lewis Frasier Middle School’s volunteer club.
For Thanksgiving, United Military Care provided more than 200 local military families with baskets full of food and $25 Walmart gift cards.
United Military Care relies solely on donations and contributions from local residents, civic organizations, churches, groups and businesses. The all-volunteer organization funnels all proceeds back into the military community.
