Quest will honor one Fort Stewart family

Registration is under way for the Family Adventure Quest at Holbrook Pond Recreation Area May 16, 17.

Be part of a campout filled with fun. Families will compete in various events. The family with the most points will be crowned Fort Stewart’s 2014 Family Adventure Quest winner.

The quest will include the showing of “Yogi Bear,” rated PG.

Registration is $30 per family or $15 per individual through May 6. It then goes up to $50 per family and $25 per individual. For more information, call 767-4316. 

 

Hunter club championship

All are invited to a 36-hole, individual stroke play competition at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday to crown the best golfer at Hunter Golf Course. Registration closes Thursday.

Flighting will be after the first round. Divisions are open, senior age 50-65, super senior 66 and older and ladies.

The cost is $55 for club members; $75 for active duty, retirees and DoD ID cardholders (non-members), and $95 for civilians. Entry fee includes range balls, greens fee, golf cart and prizes. The competition is open to the public.

Racquetball tourney

Join either women or men's single teams (A, B, C division levels of play) for a double elimination racquetball tournament May 8-10 at 6 p.m. at Newman Fitness Center and the 4thIBCT Fitness Center.

There’s no charge, but participants are asked to register by Monday.

There will be one event per person and games played to first 15 points. Tie- breakers will be played first to 11 points, best two out of three. First- and second-place medals will be awarded in all divisions.

Ladies on the Links

A free, informal clinic for women from 9-11 a.m. May 10 at Hunter Golf Course will cover all aspects of golf, ranging from rules, to etiquette, to mechanics. Participants are asked to register by May 9. For more information, call 315-9115.

 

Bass tournament

A Catch and Release Bass Tournament will begin at 6 a.m. May 10 at Pineview Lake on Fort Stewart.

Prizes are $250 for first-place (heaviest combined weight of up to five bass) and $100 for the largest bass. Door prizes will be awarded. 

Anglers can fish from the bank or boat (trolling motors only). No live bait will be permitted. Boat rentals will be available at Holbrook Equipment Center to military ID cardholders who hold a boat safety certificate.

Participants must have proper fishing permits. Fees vary, based on registration.

The tournament is open to everyone, even civilians. Fees vary, based on numbers and on date: early bird ends Wednesday, regular runs May 1-9 and late will be 5:30-7 a.m. on May 10.

Kids run at Stewart, Hunter

Non-competitive runs, as part of national Armed Forces Day, start at 9 a.m. May 10 at Jordan Fitness Center on Stewart and at Stephen Douglas Street and North Perimeter Road on Hunter.

Youth aged 5-13 are invited.

Ages 5-6 will run five-tenths of a mile, ages 7-8 one mile, and ages 9-13 two miles. There’s no charge, and T-shirts will be awarded to runners. Parents may run with children. Small World in Hinesville

All are invited to the Small World Festival, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. May 10 at Bryant Commons (438 W. Oglethorpe Highway) in Hinesville. Admission is free.

The festival is a celebration of the countries and cultures represented in the area. It includes international food, cultural entertainment and a world market place for arts and crafts.

Mini Golf Day

Celebrate National Mini Golf Day, from noon-6 p.m. May 10, with a deal for all ages at Cypress Creek Adventure Golf. It costs $1 a game. For more information, call 912-767-4273.

 

T-ball, baseball

Register to play Fort Stewart Youth Sports’ T-ball and baseball. Games begin in May. The cost for non-competitive T-ball (ages 4-6) is $20 per child. The cost for competitive baseball (7-12) is $45 per child. Participants must be CYSS-registered. Mother's Day

In appreciation of everything mom does for us, Corkan Family Recreation Area will offer one free game or admission to any activity from noon-6 p.m. May 11. Take mom out for brunch, then to Corkan for fun. For more information, call 767-4273.
