Army Spc. Jose Hernandez was honored as Soldier of the Month during the Hinesville Rotary Club meeting Tuesday, Aug. 11, at La Quinta Inn and Suites in Flemington.

Hernandez, stationed at Fort Stewart, currently serves as a radio operator and driver for the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and his military occupational specialty is indirect fire infantryman.

He has served for three years. He received a Purple Heart after being wounded by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2013. Hernandez also has received an Army Achievement Medal and a Combat Infantryman Badge.

His wife is Larissa, his hometown is Yakima, Washington, and his hobbies are travel, movies and reading.
