Donald Peller of Hinesville recently was recognized by the Coastal Empire Council Boy Scouts of America for his long and exceptional service to the youth of the council’s Liberty District.
The award was delivered during the Liberty District Good Scouter Breakfast that was sponsored by The Heritage Bank.
While mainly associated with Troop 500 in Hinesville, Peller also was recognized for his service to the entire council that encompasses 11 counties and more than 4,000 scouts and adult scouters.
According to Mel Stockton, district executive for Liberty District, “Mr. Peller has always been willing
to lend a hand when it comes to scouting events. He is well known for his ability
to work with young men to develop leadership and instill the values which made this country what it is today.”
A former building inspector with the city of Hinesville, Peller also has been active in community affairs and civic organizations, such as the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Masons.
Peller was introduced by The Heritage Bank Vice President Brian Smith, who was a scout with Troop 500. Smith and his father, Homer Smith, were closely involved in scouting with the Pellers and developed a relationship with the family that endures to this day. Fred Mingledorff Jr., the Liberty District finance chairperson, presented the award to Peller.
