Sound off for April 16

Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

Our taxes did not pay for this child to go to Mexico with her friends on a social trip. She went on a school field trip that I’m sure the school sponsored. You must have been told the story, because you couldn’t have read everything that went with this story. As far as our taxes paying for her Secret Service, that’s going to be something that’s paid anyway, whether she goes to school or to Mexico.

I think every grocery store in Hinesville needs to have some customer-service training. They are rude, they won’t speak to their customers, and they don’t say thank you.

There are so many negative things in Sound off: How about somebody putting something in that’s really cheerful? And be thankful that you live in Liberty County; it’s a great place to live.

This is for the little lady who lives on Azalea Street and drives the green car: Do you ever mind your own business? You are always in everybody else’s business. Will you please stop it? You must have a mental problem always digging in other people’s business.

I’d like to know why an animal control person is driving a county-maintained vehicle for personal use and speeding to accidents when he is not a deputy. He almost caused an accident on Stewart Hodges Loop and Smiley Road the other day.

I noticed at the retreat, there weren’t any city officials there who were elected. The only city officials there were the mayor and Billy Edwards. The city council did not attend the workshop; they should have had the workshop closer in Hinesville or nearby. It was a great workshop, it was very productive.  Half of the county commission did not come. It looks like it’s getting worse and worse every year but, like I said, it looks like it was very productive.

I’ve attended the board of education meetings for a long period of time. I would like to see changes on that board. We need people who have interest in the kids, teachers, para-pros and bus drivers. There is one lady that I think will do a great job; she will not be told what to do by the chairwoman.

Well, folks, you’ve seen the mercury spill at Bradwell, and the school was evacuated. Do you have plans when you buy one of those new lights, and they’ve got mercury in them? Just like the old thermometers, they’ve got mercury in them and they’re dangerous; do you know who to call when you’ve got a mercury spill in your house?

I just want to say, these convenience stores that sell lottery tickets, and they can’t honor them once you win them, they don’t need to be selling lottery tickets. Just leave it alone.
