Here are some of the issues that area residents are  discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does  not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

I’d like to know when the city is going to impose fines for these garbage dumpsters sitting on the streets 24 hours, seven days a week. There’s garbage everywhere, floating through everybody’s yards.

As new grandparents, we were really excited to hear about the Liberty County Pre-K Center workshop for boosting children’s literacy skills. Where is the library when these things go on? They always want county money, but they never seem to do anything for this county. They can do better.

I agree the board of education building looks like the Taj Mahal, but the new justice center looks like Harvard University and the new city hall looks like a movie set for Romeo and Juliet meets Rhett and Scarlett. How are we paying for the romantic, unnecessary balcony and arches? Heaven help us.

The lady in front of me in Food Lion just bought steak and shrimp with an EBT card. Man, I wish I could do that — and I work. Must be nice.
