Here are some of the issues being discussed by area residents. The statements were phoned in anonymously so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:
Disabled veterans, widows of disabled veterans, disabled workers and elderly people on Social Security do not get cost-of-living increases, but big business banks get bailed out from messes they made themselves. That seems un-American to me.
How a civilization treats its old people will decide how history judges it. We’re all going to get old someday if we’re lucky enough. And a lot of us are not rich enough to afford the right health care.
The board of education all went to Washington to ask for funds. Looking at the picture, I would think the chairman would have been adequate to go visit those people. The rest of them should have stayed home and saved money.
Give us some assistance, city council. Please start removing junk cars or issuing citations. I know you can act. If the right people call, you respond immediately. But if the average working people call, we’re labeled troublemakers.
Does the Midway Branch Library give services on income tax filling out to senior citizens like they did at the senior citizens place, AARP did, in Hinesville?
When are we going to become just Americans? I’m tired of reading about Future Black Leaders of America, 11 Black Men, Black Chamber of Commerce that promotes blacks buying from blacks, Black Miss America that you have to be black to enter.
OK, Hinesville, put your big boy pants on and realize you elected a mayor and city council, so suck it up and pay their raises.
