Sound off for Aug. 26

Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

Why are 5-year-old children whose parents are on welfare receiving free phones with 500 minutes? Why are welfare recipients getting cell phones? We taxpayers are the ones footing the bill for this. We foot the bill for their food stamps. We foot the bill for everything for them, and look at our economy. This is ridiculous.

The reason why the debt-ceiling problems did not work is because of the way the two parties got along together and because the Republicans only wanted it raised for short-term. That’s like playing a game. I’m quite sure God speaks the main problem. We can look for a rough season in 2012 if God looks over the problems we cannot negotiate.

It’s very sad that the funeral home in charge of maintaining the grounds at Oglethorpe Memorial Park does not do a better job. The grass needs to be cut and several of the graves have large holes over them.

This debt crisis that we have right now in America proves that Obama could not even run a lemonade stand.

What happened to Sound off in Sunday’s paper? Maybe some people are tired of the lemonade information, but I would like to see more of it in Sound off. Even Savannah had that.
