Here are some of the issues area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not know if they are true, nor what motivated the callers:

I saw in the paper that Riceboro got an insurance rating on their fire department of 6. I live in Gum Branch and we have a rating of 8. I pay exorbitant insurance premiums. We need a break.

I thought jaywalking was illegal in Hinesville, Chatham County and all the surrounding area. But here I go to 84 to drop my daughter off to practice every day and see people jaywalking right in front of the police and they don’t do anything. I guess they won’t until someone gets killed. Police, do your jobs.

To the lady who reads the water meters in Ludowici, keep up the good work.

If Cash for Clunkers is sincere in helping the American economy, then it should be only for cars made in America.

You should’ve seen the fireworks display by God over the Jericho River or Jones Creek. It was so big and sparked so beautiful out over the river. What a display of God’s powers.

I’m very upset to hear that the seafood department in Wal-Mart will be shut down and replaced with refrigerators. It feels good to walk into an establishment where you can have a one-on-one conversation with a salesperson.

Shame on Frank Long Elementary for allowing 5- and 6-year-olds to be put under pressure to bring magazine things home to sell. They know the parents will have to get involved in selling.

It’s easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom God.

Come on Liberty County, what’s with the house on Franklin Street? The grass is knee high, the house is falling down, there are two abandoned cars in the front yard and the pool in the backyard is contributing to the mosquito population.
