Here are some of the issues area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not know if the sources can be trusted. Nor do we know what motivated the callers:

Those of you who voted for Obama and change better wake up before it’s too late. What Obama is doing to this country is right out of Hitler and Karl Marx’ playbook, absolute power. If you want government to tell you what you can or cannot do with your life then you got what you voted for.

The Department of Labor needs to get all these illegal aliens out of all these convenience stores so Americans can get their jobs back.

I’d like to complement Ruby Tuesday. I went there for dinner last evening. I’ve always been forced to go out of town to get service in dignity and not act like a beer joint. It wasn’t boisterous. It was a nice dinner.

Why don’t they take the money and spend it on a Hinesville bypass, instead of wasting it on a fifth brigade.

Well it’s not true that you can get all your diabetic medicine and testing equipment at Winn. They only stock in the pharmacy what the in-house doctors write. We have to go to outside doctors and are always told they don’t carry what our doctors write.

What is happening to the city’s stormwater fee they are taking from all the residents if they’ve got to borrow money for a project to keep the streams clean.

I saw in the paper where the Long County fire department got over $200,000 in various ways. And in the Gum Branch area we got only $1,000 and we were so grateful. But we only have $13,000 a year to run this whole area and Gum Branch isn’t a tiny area.

In reading the Hinesville, Ga., USA, 2008 citizens report, would somebody please inform the city management, city council and mayor that we are, in fact, in a recession. All they are doing is spending money foolishly.

Cry baby, cry. Hinesville is painting itself into a box, depending on welfare grants from the federal government because of the 3rd Infantry Division. And greedy developers, the development authority and CEO of Hinesville should be ashamed of themselves.
