Here are some of the issues area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

I don’t know what cave the caller, who said the wife is supposed to work while the mistress is supposed to clean house, crawled out of, but he needs to crawl right back in it.

Just because I know my husband’s job doesn’t mean I can take it over. There were much more qualified people for sheriff.

When will the people of Liberty County stand up and vote for the person who is there for them and their best interest and not their personal interests? What in the world can the next sheriff do for this county?

With all due respect to Sheriff Martin and his department, how can his wife be appointed interim sheriff when you have a chain of command already in place? Let’s use them.

So no one in the sheriff’s department is qualified to be the acting sheriff until November. Beam me up.

How can a department run and your supervisor makes you take a drug test when they don’t take a drug test. I don’t think it’s right.

Just when I think I’ve heard it all, they’ve gone and made the late sheriff’s wife the interim sheriff. That is wrong on so many levels.

Congratulations, we have a new sheriff in town. Go, Sheriff Polly.
