Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

Do the white people have anyone who’ll come in and fight for us?

I have been a member of this community for 18 years. I’m an African-American man and would like the NAACP to know that they don’t speak for me. I don’t have any demands on anyone. We don’t need the NAACP. What we need is more prevention of crime and more protection of police.

Hey, roofing man, a good leader leads more by example than he does by command.

I read the mayor’s article in the paper. I want to say t o him and some council members, I stand behind you. Don’t let the NAACP disrupt you. Stand for what is right.

Would the program to feed the children for the summer come out to Isle of Wight, at Jones Creek Park where little children are playing also? We’d like it here, too.

Washington State is going to have the same no-texting law. What they are going to do if you’re looking down while driving, they’ll stop you. Because if you’re looking down, you’re not paying attention. Thank you, Georgia, for protecting the families.
