Here are some of the issues being discussed by area residents. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

On the HOPE scholarship, my grandsons, twins, have made the B average that was required to get the HOPE scholarship and be able to pay for a lot of things that’s been cut out. Senators and Congressmen, get busy and do what’s right by young people on that HOPE scholarship. Open it back up so the B averages get to go to school.

I want to thank the garrison commander for addressing the line and wait at the gate issues. And I thank him for opening the remainder of the gates because there has been a great relief from having to sit in traffic for 20 to 30 minutes. Thank you, sir. Rock of the Marne.

Pet owners, do you think that if you put your phone numbers on the pets’ collar, when it got loose, it would be easier for us to call you and let you know, hey we got your pet.

Why doesn’t the person complaining about the Isle of Wight get-togethers ease up? In this depressing time of the economy, what’s so wrong with friends being together? There is no harm in our friendly gatherings.

I would like to say to Walthourville, I see where they wanted to get a new chief and a new mayor. I want to say to the chief, you’re doing a great job. Keep the work up. The person that called, tell them to run for something. To the mayor of Walthourville, I would like to say you’re doing extraordinary – a great job.

This is in reference to the caller about the so-called military retirement pay cut. Look at your 2009 account statement. You received a tax cut for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This was only good for two years, so now they are taking the taxes gain. Obama gaveth, now Obama taketh.

It is too bad Snelson-Golden has teachers that allow gang singing at the school. Yes, they should praise the black leaders that have accomplished something or the poets or the writers. Yes, we should do that, but not the Black Panthers and signing their praise. We’re trying to stop gangs in this country.

Just because you win an election does not mean that you’re going to make it into heaven. Because the devil is the father of lies and you might end up with your father down in flames.

How can you offer free tax service to employees of the Liberty County School System and then once you get there, they tell you it does not apply to you because if you’re not head of household? I think this is false advertising.
