Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

I’d just like to know when they’re going to stop that gambling going on down there in the Midway area. They’ve got that gambling going on there all the time, and surely the Midway police have got something to do to go in there and bust it up. Everybody in town knows about it, but nobody’s made it stop.

Kony 2012, make him famous. Thank you.

We don’t need Obama apologizing for the burning of the Quran when the Muslim religion is killing all Christians, burning our churches down, and destroying our Bibles. So please, Obama, be a president — nothing more than that.

In reference to the lady and the fundraiser: The lady was told that she had possible cancer. She did not know until after the surgery that it wasn’t. And if it were a crime, she would never have told people that cancer was not found, because medical records are private.

I am sick and tired of voters saying Newt has too much baggage; Romney has too much money; Santorum is too far right. He who is without sin, cast the first stone. What transpired 20 or 30 years ago is in the past. People change.

To the person who wants to criticize President Obama, tell them: If you want to give your name, maybe they can criticize you.

To the Iraq war veteran who can’t get medical assistance: Have you tried the Veterans’ Administration? Or go to talk to the Disabled American veterans. They’ll help you; that’s what the VA is for, to help American veterans.
