Here are some of the issues area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

My constructive comment on the proposed city council raises, which I think is a done deal: That money should be used for something productive, such as hiring more people in the inspection and enforcement office.

Everyone displeased with the city council vote on raises should be sure that come election time, you vote all these people out of office. We are struggling. It’s an abuse of taxpayers.

Did you ever notice how when some people drink, they act the fool. And other people who don’t drink, like me, well sometimes we act the fool, too.

I challenge your readers to study how Adolph Hitler came into power over Nazi Germany and then look at what our President Obama is doing now. The parallels will scare you half to death. Is this the new anti-christ coming into power?

Enough is enough, mayor and councilmen. Double your salaries while the rest of city government is required to cut back, i.e. public works don’t have a toilet to spit in and citizens’ property is flooding?

My councilman does an excellent job. He was just caught off guard and he’ll rethink that salary thing. A couple councilmen are real good. And that lawyer they’re paying should have warned them off what they were doing.

I know it’s wrong to judge a person and I’m not perfect either. But is it right that Tiger Woods is allowed to participate in such a prestigious golf tournament?
